Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that continued detention of many of her party leaders, especially youth wing president Waheed Parra, was “emblematic of the situation of Kashmiri politicians who are being persecuted by New Delhi for not toeing its line”.

Waheed Parra was arrested by NIA in connection with Hizbul funding case and finally got bail from NIA court in the first week of January. However, he was arrested by the Counter Insurgency Kashmir (CIK) wing of Jammu & Kashmir police and is still under detention.

On Wednesday Mehbooba Mufti in a series of tweets said that this case is a pure reflection of how the ground situation is unfolding in Kashmir valley. “Disliked & mistrusted by people in J&K for their faith in Indian constitution on one hand & punished by GoI for not toeing their line on the other”, she said in one of the tweets.

In another tweet Mehbooba said, “PDPs @parawahid arrested immediately after filing his DDC nomination hails from a family where his grandfather would unfurl the Indian flag when not many Kashmiris would do so. Waheed’’s interest in politics started at a young age.”

Mehbooba tried to convey that mainstream politicians in Jammu and Kashmir were being “persecuted” by the same system in which they placed their faith at the cost of their lives.

On the day of counting for the DDC elections two important leaders of PDP both former ministers Nayeem Akhtar and Sartaj Madni were arrested by police and are still under detention. Sartaj Madni is also the maternal uncle of Mehbooba Mufti.
