NARCOTICS BUREAU’S CRACKDOWN ON CHINKU PATHAN GANG CONTINUES, FOURTH ARREST AFTER DRUG BUST

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday arrested one more member of the Chinku Pathan gang from Dongri area of Mumbai and recovered MD drug. The probe agency has also recovered a diary of Pathan that contains the names of 20 drug peddlers.

“The money earned from drug sales was being used in anti-national activities. The information gathered about gangster Chinku Pathan’s activities will be shared with the Enforcement Directorate and the National Investigation Agency,” the NCB said in a statement. Probe is underway to ascertain whether Pathan is associated with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday arrested another member of the drug syndicate run by Chinku Pathan alias Parvez Khan who is said to be a Dawood Ibrahim gang member and grandson of late underworld don Karim Lala.

This is the fourth arrest by the NCB since the crackdown on the gang started on Wednesday after the arrest of Pathan in Navi Mumbai. Sources in NCB said that during the interrogation of Pathan, he revealed details about his close aide who is also his cousin brother along with others involved in the supply of drugs manufactured by them at the Dongri-based laboratory run by the absconding accused Arif Bhujwala.

The fourth arrested accused, who is also Pathan’s cousin, is said to be one of the major suppliers of mephedrone also known as ‘MCat’ and ‘Meow Meow’ in Mumbai. NCB officials conducted raids on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday and by noon the fourth arrest was made. Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede raided the accused drug suppliers’ hideout in Dongri locality of South Mumbai and took him in custody after the seizure of mephedrone from his residence.

NCB officials said that the gang members who were earlier into smuggling of gold, later shifted focus to drugs and over decades have been smuggling traditional narcotic drugs. Over the past 4-5 years, the syndicate got into manufacturing synthetic drugs and supplied these to Middle East countries and South Eastern countries. NCB will now launch an investigation abroad in coordination with agencies of the respective countries and Interpol.
