According to the traffic authorities Srinagar-Jammu highway will remain closed at least for another five days as they had to shut it again due to the collapse of retaining wall of an important bridge in Ramban sector of this highway.

Earlier authorities cleared the highway from snow and debris of land and mudslides, which closed it for days together. They also cleared the thousands of trucks which were stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway and allowed them to proceed to Kashmir valley.

Now on Monday, after the collapse of the retaining wall and also due to the fresh mudslides at many points, traffic officials decided to close down Srinagar-Jammu highway, multiplying the problems of common people here.

Social media platforms have been full of complaints, forcing LG Manoj Sinha to hold an important meeting with all the district heads of Kashmir valley to get the updates about the restoration of power supply and also about the clearance of roads as majority of link roads in the villages are closed due to the accumulation of heavy snow.

The administration was told by LG Manoj Sinha not to be lax and try their level best to mitigate the grievances of common people. Recently a clip went viral when in a Shopian village the local villagers had to carry the body of a deceased person on their shoulders for ten kilometers as the entire chain of roads has been blocked by heavy snowfall.

“Jammu-Srinagar highway is closed due to sudden damage of bridge at Kela Morh, Ramban. It will take at least 05 days to repair the damaged bridge as stated by NHAI,” a senior traffic officer told the media in Srinagar on Monday afternoon.
