With its newest entry, the “Disney Princess” franchise is about to go desi. The director of “Bride and Prejudice,” Gurinder Chadha, and Paul Mayeda Berges have been commissioned by the House of Mouse to create an original musical film. Both Chadha and Berges contributed to the film’s writing; the former would also serve as its producer and director. The movie’s plot is not yet revealed in any detail. Chadha, owner of the business “Bend It Films,” has produced movies that have hauled in more than $300 million USD at the global box office. She received two BAFTA Award nominations: one for “Bhaji on the Beach,” her directorial debut, and another for “Bend It Like Beckham.” The latter was the most successful British-financed and distributed feature film at the UK box office at the time, grossing a total of 76 million USD globally.

Producer Lindy Goldstein of “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” will also be a part of the crew. However, Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Motion Picture Production, will be in charge of the project.
