Nepal Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal along with his Council of Ministers paid tribute to martyrs at the Martyrs Memorial in Lainchaur on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day on Tuesday.
The latter laid a wreath at the memorial and offered tributes to both known and unknown martyrs.
Many people including Ministers, high-ranking government officials, people’s representatives, members of the security forces and members of musical bands of the security bodies also came to pay their respects at the memorial.
This day is celebrated annually on Magh 16(End of January), in accordance with the Nepali calendar. The event has various programs to honour the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment and restoration of democracy and freedom.
Ram Chandra Paudel, Nepal’s President said that the best way for respecting martyrs is to aspire for sustainable peace, good governance, development and converting them into action.
On the occasion of Martyr Day, he stressed the need for everybody to play their roles honestly to materialise the dream of martyrs.
Paudel noted that the country has become a federal democratic republic as a result of the martyrs’ sacrifice.
The constitution reflects a federal democratic republic which has a target of dispensing justice to the marginalised with political, economic, social and cultural freedoms.
President Paudel offered homage to four martyrs – Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Gangalal Shreshtha along with all known, unknown martyrs for devoting their lives for freedom of citizens and establishing democracy.
PM Dahal also claimed the martyrs to be the torchbearers and a source of inspiration.
“The government has paid utmost attention to honouring and protecting the families of those who have sacrificed their lives at different times in history,” he said.
