NEET-UG, 2024, the biggest medical entrance examination by the National Testing Agency, was conducted successfully on Sunday from 2 pm to 5:20 pm under tight security with modern technology, in which 23.50 lakh (98 percent) candidates appeared in 557 cities of the country. NTA’s Zonal Coordinator Pradeepsingh Gaud said that for the NEET-UG examination, biometric scanning was done rapidly due to the presence of the candidate’s database on the tablet screen through Artificial Intelligence at various examination centers in 24 cities of Rajasthan. This technique did not cause any inconvenience to the candidates. The paper was conducted through Zoomer amid tight security.
He said that out of 1.97 lakh registered candidates in the state this year, 1.92 lakh (97.5 percent) appeared for the paper. In Kota, out of 27,456 registered candidates, 27,119 appeared for the paper at 56 examination centres. 337 students remained absent. In the morning at the examination centers of Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Alwar, Bikaner, Banswara, Sriganganagar, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Baran, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Sirohi, Sawai Madhopur, Pali, Nagaur, Churu, Dausa, Dholpur, Karauli. There was hustle and bustle of students and parents from 1000 hrs till evening. Like every year, this time too the number of girls candidates was highest in the examination centres of Kota.
This year too, daughters remained ahead in the race to become doctors. 24 lakh 6 thousand candidates were registered for NEET-UG 2024, which includes 13.63 lakh girls and 10.18 lakh boys. Whereas last year 20,87,449 were registered in this examination. This year there has been an increase of 2,94,384 candidates.
NTA had declared 11.45 lakh out of 20.87 lakh candidates qualified for counselling in NEET-UG, 2023. Since this year the number of candidates has increased by 2.94 lakh and the number of MBBS and BDS seats has increased, more than 12 lakh candidates are expected to qualify for counselling.
The special thing is that due to 27 percent reservation in medical colleges, the maximum number of candidates from OBC-NCL category was 10,43,084, whereas the candidates from general category reduced to 6,43,596. Similarly, 3,52,107 from SC category and 1,54,489 from ST category took the NEET-UG exam. 1,88,557 people from the general weaker income group also showed interest in it.
NTA asked a total of 200 questions of 720 marks from the four subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany in the NEET-UG paper. There were 35 questions in Section A of each subject and 15 questions in Section B, out of which 10 questions had to be solved. Each question is of 4 marks. There will be negative marking of one mark for wrong answer.
Candidates said that this year more questions related to NCERT syllabus were asked in the paper. The level of questions in all four subjects was moderate. Candidates are now waiting for the official ‘Answer Key’ to know their probable NTA score. On the other hand, many leading coaching institutes have released the estimated ‘answer keys’ on their websites.
According to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, this year the authorised MBBS seats in 706 government and private medical colleges of the country have increased to 1,08,940, which was 51,348 in 2014. In this way, there has been an increase of 57,591 MBBS seats in 10 years. Similarly, students qualified in NEET-UG will also get the opportunity on 28,088 seats of 323 colleges of BDS and 55,851 seats of AYUSH course.
