The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) announced on Monday, December 16, 2024, the installation of “mist sprayers” on electric poles to combat rising air pollution and enhance the cleanliness and beauty of the NDMC area. The initiative, part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ease of Living mission, was unveiled by NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal.
Chahal highlighted that under PM Modi’s leadership, efforts have been focused on improving urban living standards in a structured manner. This project marks a significant step toward making the NDMC area pollution-free, according to a council statement.
Details of the Mist Sprayer Installation
In the first phase, 15 mist sprayers will be installed on electric poles along a 500-metre stretch of Lodhi Road. Each pole will feature five nozzles, with six spray holes per nozzle, creating 30 spray points per pole. The system will use 81 litres of water per pole per hour, supported by four 5,000-litre tanks that will utilise treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) to conserve fresh water.
Chahal noted that the initial phase of the project is expected to be implemented next year, with plans to complete the work within a set timeline. After successful implementation on Lodhi Road, the project will be expanded to other prominent locations like Shanti Path and Africa Avenue, followed by a wider rollout across the NDMC jurisdiction.
Chahal also outlined NDMC’s other efforts to combat pollution, including: Mechanical Road Sweepers (MRS): Equipped with GPS tracking, these sweepers ensure efficient cleaning of roads, monitored in real-time via the Smart City Integrated Command and Control Centre.
Anti-Smog Guns and Mist Spray Machines: Deployed to reduce dust and particulate matter.

Water Tankers: With capacities of 5,000–10,000 litres, these tankers use treated water from STPs to water roadside trees and shrubs. Tree Plantation Drives: Regular planting and maintenance of greenery along roadsides. Construction Dust Control: Strict enforcement of dust control measures at construction sites. These measures, Chahal said, align with the Prime Minister’s vision of a pollution-free India. He affirmed that NDMC is committed to adopting innovative and sustainable pollution control practices to uphold the highest environmental standards.
