Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), will address a rally today in Parli, Beed, Maharashtra. A former Congress chief minister alleged that Ajit Pawar had offered his uncle a position in the Union Cabinet in exchange for his support, sparking a verbal exchange between the NCP and the Congress that has led to this rally.
On Wednesday, Pawar sought to refute those claims, asking, “Do you think that everything I have said up to this point has been in favor of Narendra Modi? What can I say about any leader who makes a statement without evidence? Following reports of a “secret” meeting between Sharad Pawar and his nephew Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, the Congress leveled these accusations. The senior Pawar has come under fire from the congress for meeting with Ajit Pawar even though the NCP is no longer united.
Sharad Pawar countered that since Ajit was his nephew, the meeting was simply between relatives and nothing else should be inferred from it. Pawar will speak at a rally today in Parli, Beed, the district of prominent NCP rebel Dhananjay Munde. This is the senior Pawar’s second such rally, which is intended to target NCP defectors. Pawar held a rally earlier this month in Nashik, a NCP rebel district that also includes Chaggan Bhujbal. Pawar is also anticipated to hold rallies in support of other NCP rebel leaders.
Shard Pawar, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday reitrated his faith in the INDIA alliance saying that the alliance will create “janmat” across the country to oust the Narendra Modi government in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
