India is making changes, and just like the March Madness picks, they’ve made a few decisions that could change the way India does sports. Come with us as we take a look at whether or not India is willing to adopt the NCAA model.
The NCAA, also known as the National Collegiate Athletic Association, was formed in 1906 as an Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The organization currently operates in Puerto Rico, Canada, and the United States and was formed and was meant to help with eligibility and competition rules for sports such as football and other sports. The association is also meant to keep college athletes safe both mentally and physically.
Through the association’s Sport Science Institute, they try to provide recommendations and guidelines to ensure that all college athletes are receiving the best possible care, both mentally and physically, they can.
This is because athletes suffer the most, especially when it comes to their physical and mental health. Many athletes have pushed their bodies to the limit causing physical and mental breakdowns.
When we think of India, we think of cricket which they are widely known for, but there’s so much more to Indian sports talent than what meets the eye.
In recent times, the minister has been keen on tapping into Indian college sports talent. Unfortunately, the industry has suffered majorly due to a lack of resources and competition which leaves most of the college talent uncultivated.
Although there are competitions, they cater to a select few universities, which doesn’t help much when it comes to cultivating talent.
In the next few days, the AIU, also known as the Association of Indian Universities, will deliberate on the issue and forward their collective answer to the necessary parties.
One of the biggest issues the model may face is funding which is why there is a limit on the amount of competition and resources.
During the meetings between the AIU officials, issues such as funding, competitions, resources, and many others will be discussed in the hopes of coming up with a conclusion and a way to assist college talent.
Sources have said that India does not have a structured national league, nor do they host competitions in various leagues to support the NCAA structure. Following up requires resources that they may not have, and this is the issue that they need to address in the AIU.
The NCAA is a model and concept that can pave the way for college talent and also assist Indian talent to make it to an international level. It will also assist in ensuring that there are competitions all year round, making it easier for talent to grow.
Sports is an integral part of all nations and can contribute majorly toward the economy both through tourism and sponsorships. Sport is one of the major reasons that many travels from place to place. In fact, sports can have many traveling to beautiful places such as India.
The more sports games India has, the easier it will be for them to attract even more tourists looking to spend their money on the games. Sponsorships are also an amazing way for players to make money and contribute toward the Indian economy.
India is an amazing region filled with multiple people with many talents, which is why they need to make major improvements. To move forward, India will need to focus on many things, including infrastructure, training facilities, competitions, and many more. By improving these, they can produce the participants they are looking for and help improve talent within India.
Adopting the NCAA model isn’t just looking at Indian talent alone. There are various things that go into improving Indian sports talents, such as finances, infrastructure, competitions, and many more. This means that the adaptation of the NCAA model may end up taking years to implement.
