Nayab Singh Saini, the new Haryana Chief Minister, will move the confidence motion in the state Assembly on Wednesday. Saini, who took oath as the chief minister of the state on Tuesday after former CM Manohar Lal Khattar and his entire cabinet resigned, is sure of getting the confidence motion passed in the Assembly.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 41 MLAs in the 90-member Haryana Assembly and is supported by six Independent MLAs as well as Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) legislator Gopal Kanda. The BJP is also hoping that a few Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) MLAs will come come out in its support and vote in favour of the confidence motion even though the alliance between the two political outfits broke on Tuesday.

With four JJP MLAs – Devender Singh Babli, Jogi Ram Sihag, Ishwar Singh and Ram Niwas Surjakhera – present during the swearing-in ceremony of Nayab Singh Sain Saini on Tuesday, the BJP is confident of getting the support of more than 50 legislators in the Assembly.

Even the JJP has not issued any whip to its MLAs for voting for or against the confidence motion, further boosting BJP’s confidence.

The numbers reveal that the BJP has the support of a majority of the MLAs. With its won 41 MLAs, the BJP is also being backed by six independents and HLP’s Gopal Kanda, giving is a clear majority of 48 in the 90-member house. On the other hand, the Congress has 30 while the JJP has 10. There is one more independent MLA as well as one legislator of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
