Passenger Assaults Cabin Crew, Attempts To Open Plane Door; Emergency Landing At Mumbai Airport

A 25-year-old man has been apprehended by Mumbai police for allegedly assaulting cabin crew members and attempting to open the door of an Air India Express flight bound from Kozhikode to Bahrain.

The individual, identified as Abdul Musavir Nadukandee, was taken into custody following an emergency landing of the flight at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Saturday, as reported by a Sahar police official.

Nadukandee, hailing from Kerala, purportedly woke up shortly after the aircraft departed from Kozhikode. Subsequently, he proceeded to the rear of the plane, where he allegedly assaulted the cabin crew and made an attempt to open the aircraft door.

Upon being restrained and returned to his seat by the crew, Nadukandee allegedly engaged in verbal abuse and physical assaults against fellow passengers, while also threatening to open the emergency door, according to the official.

In response to the potential security threat, the pilot opted for an emergency landing at CSMIA and promptly alerted security authorities.

The individual faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 336 (act endangering life), 504 (provocation to breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), along with pertinent provisions of the Aircraft Act, the official stated.
