Odisha: Two Dead, 130 Injured During Jagannath Rath Yatra

Odisha: Two Dead, 130 Injured During Jagannath Rath Yatra

In the state of Odisha, two people died and 130 people were injured during Jagannath Rath Yatra.

These deaths happened in two different incidents, which occurred during the festival.

On Sunday, a native from Bolangir district lost his life due to suffocation in a ‘stampede like situation.’

Talking about this incident, ambulance attendant Sushant Kumar Patnaik said, ‘When we put him in the ambulance, his pulse was running. We took him to the hospital and gave him CPR. However, doctors declared him brought dead.’

In another unfortunate incident, another individual lost its life, after being caught under the wheels of the chariot.

Later, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi announced compensation of Rs.4 lakh for deceased families.

Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari also met the injured in the hospital on Sunday and said, ‘One person died while many others were admitted after sustaining injuries in stampede, dehydration, dysentery and other reasons. No one is serious.’

Meanwhile, around 600 people have asked for medical attention at Puri’s hospitals and medical camps. But health official Bijay Mohapatra revealed, little more than 130 people patients were there in the hospital.

However, the health official asserted, that such admissions during rath yatra is normal and none of patient’s injury is serious. And they are giving them required treatment.

Currently, the rath yatra has started on Monday at 9.30.
