NIA Gets Custody of International Human Trafficker Kamran Haider

A special NIA court in New Delhi granted custody of Kamran Haider, also known as Zaidi, to the agency until December 13. The court reached this decision after hearing the NIA’s submissions.

Kamran Haider’s Arrest

The special cell of Delhi Police arrested Kamran Haider on December 7 in Hyderabad. Prior to his arrest, the NIA had announced a ₹2-lakh reward for information leading to his capture. Subsequently, police brought him to Delhi on a transit remand and presented him before Special Judge (NIA) Chander Jit Singh.

Allegations of Human Trafficking

Haider allegedly operated an international human trafficking racket under the guise of a consultancy firm. He reportedly lured Indian job seekers with promises of employment in Thailand and Laos. However, after their arrival, he forced them to work in fraudulent call centers.

Complaint That Unveiled the Racket

On July 25, Naresh Lakhavat filed a complaint at the New Friends Colony police station. According to Lakhavat, he approached Ali International Services, a consultancy in New Delhi, while searching for a job.

Consequently, the firm offered him employment in Thailand and Laos. However, upon his arrival in Thailand, his passport was confiscated. He alleged that he was forced to work for a Chinese company involved in online scams targeting Indians.

NIA Takes Over Investigation

The case initially began at the New Friends Colony police station. Later, it was transferred to the NIA, which registered a new FIR for further investigation. Eventually, Principal District and Sessions Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav granted Haider’s custody to the agency to deepen the probe.

Focus on Uncovering the Network

With Haider in custody, the NIA aims to expose the entire human trafficking network. Moreover, the agency plans to identify and take action against those involved while working to prevent such crimes in the future.
