Maharashtra: Father-in-Law Throws Acid at Son-in-Law Over Honeymoon Dispute in Thane

A 29-year-old newly married man from Thane district, Maharashtra, sustained serious injuries after his father-in-law allegedly threw acid at him following a disagreement over their honeymoon destination. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, and the victim, Ibad Atik Falke, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

According to police officials, the accused, Jaki Gulam Murtaza Khotal, 65, is currently at large. The dispute arose after Falke expressed his desire to visit Kashmir for his honeymoon, while Khotal preferred that the couple travel to a religious site abroad. This disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation.

On the night of the incident, Falke returned home and parked his vehicle near a road when Khotal, who had been waiting for him in his car, allegedly rushed towards him and threw acid, causing injuries to Falke’s face and body.

Police have indicated that Khotal was reportedly intent on ending his daughter’s marriage to Falke. He has been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 124-1 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the use of acid and 351-3 for criminal intimidation. Authorities are actively working to locate Khotal, who remains absconding.
