Hema, Shotgun hail actors-turned-politicians

Bollywood star and TMC MP Shatrughan and Lok Sabha MP from Mathura and “Dream girl” Hema Malini added a dash of glamour to serious talk on politics on the opening day of the three-day event Manch 2023 organised by ITV Network on Wednesday, as both the actors-turned-politicians shared their experiences as parliamentarians.
Hema Malini talked about her commitment to build new facilities and develop a cultural corridor in Mathura and vowed to make her Lok Sabha constituency a cultural hub.
Sinha was at his witty best as he claimed that he was proud of his entry into politics and clean image even while serving as a Union Cabinet minister.
The 77-year-old cine star said he also draws a lot of satisfaction from his association with the anti-tobacco campaign. “I myself have quit smoking and am inspiring others to do the same,” he said.
Born in Bihar, the actor, who landed in FTII, Pune and has made a mark in Bollywood, said the gap between real and reel is getting reduced and welcomed the trend of film stars entering politics. “Politics has power and unlimited glamour whereas films have glamour and there is power associated with it,” he said.
He also said his life is an inspiration for the young generations looking to take up politics as a profession.
“I have no family members in politics and I am a first-generation politician. I have grown only on the basis of my hard work,” said Sinha, who represents Asansol Lok Sabha constituency as TMC MP.
Talking about “Khamosh!”, his trademark catchline, the actor-turned-politician said people believe it is a line from my film but it is not.
“It gives me satisfaction that my style has become an iconic catchline,” he said, urging the youth to follow their own creativity rather than copying anyone.
