Excise Policy Case: Court Sends AAP’s Chanpreet Singh to Judicial Custody

The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi sent Chanpreet Singh, accused of handling funds for the Aam Aadmi Party’s Goa assembly elections, to judicial custody after he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an Excise policy case. Chanpreet Singh, who worked for AAP as a freelancer from May-June 2021 to March 2022 for the Goa election campaign, received salaries from both AAP and m/s Wizspk Communications.

The ED sought direction from the court to send him to judicial custody, which was granted until April 23, 2024. The Delhi liquor policy case, according to AAP, relies solely on the statements of approvers, some of whom have ties to the BJP. AAP alleges a politically motivated investigation by the ED and points out that after two years of investigation and over 500 raids, no evidence has been found against AAP leaders.

Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also arrested Singh in the same case, which originated from a CBI FIR. Various individuals, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, have been arrested by the ED in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case.
