A casual laborer was fatally stabbed by an alleged bootlegger and his three accomplices inside the trauma care center of the government-operated GG Hospital in Jamnagar city. The police reported that the incident occurred around 12:30 am on Thursday.
Dharmarajsinh alias Bhuro Zala, 32, was being treated when Jaypalsinh Chudasama, a local bootlegger, arrived with friends Urmil alias Umo Rathod, Pranavdipsinh alias Pancho Vaghela, and Akshayrajsinh Parmar. According to an FIR at the B Division police station in Jamnagar, Chudasama stabbed Zala after Vaghela overpowered him.
The police reported that this was the second time the accused had attacked the victim within an hour.
The FIR, based on a complaint by Sukhdevsinh Jadeja, states that Chudasama hit Zala on the head with an iron rod near the police headquarters gate on Saru Section Road, Jamnagar, around 11.30 pm on Wednesday. Ravirajsinh Parmar, another friend, then rushed Zala to the trauma care center of GG Hospital. Meanwhile, Zala called Jadeja, informing him of the assault and asking him to meet at the hospital.
P P Jha, the police inspector in charge of B Division police station of Jamnagar, informed “Zala was given treatment in the trauma care center. However, he succumbed to his wounds after brief treatment.”
“The reason for this incident (murder) is that this Jaypalsinh Chudasama sells liquor and every time he would be caught by the police, he would suspect that Dharmarajsinh alias Bhuro had tipped (police) about him. Around one-and-a-half months ago, Jaypalsinh had gone to Bhuro’s residence, and they quarreled. The two had a tiff going on since,” the FIR quotes Jadeja, 42, owner of a brass parts manufacturing unit, as having stated in his complaint.
The inspector said that Zala and Chudasama were friends. “They were not just friends since their childhood but also neighbors,” Jha said, adding, “Zala was undergoing treatment for a mental illness for the past eight months. Chudasama used to tease Zala about it. This led to a scuffle which took a violent turn later on.”
“The accused ran away after assaulting Zala for the second time in hospital. Efforts are on to nab them,” said Jha.
Based on Jadeja’s complaint, the police have booked Chudasama, Rathod, Vaghela, and Parmar under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 114 (abettor present when the offense is committed).
