Bengaluru scientists develop ‘Corona canon’ to neutralise virus

As scientists around the world continue to sweat day and night to develop an effective Covid vaccine, Bengaluru-based Organisation de Scalene has come with a device called Shycocan (Scalene Hypercharge Corona Canon) which has the ability to neutralise Covid-19 that might be floating in the air in closed spaces or accumulated on surfaces. This device has come up as a ray of hope to contain the spread of Covid in crowded spaces at a time when the country continues to unlock after months of lockdowns.

Developed by a team led by scientist Rajah Vijay Kumar, the device has the ability to neutralise 99.9% of the coronavirus. Shycocan emits photons, which then collide with air particles to emit electrons that neutralise the Spike-protein or S-protein in coronavirus. The virus gets neutralised before entering the human body as a result of which an individual doesn’t get affected. The device is effective in closed spaces of up to 1,000 sq ft or in places up to 10,000 cubic metres, such as wait- ing rooms, offices, malls and other public areas.

Earlier, the team had started working on the device months before the pandemic hit to mitigate
common cold and flu in the employees working at Scalene’s office. To know about its effectiveness in containing Covid spread, 3 prototypes were sent to America, Mexico and Europe. A team of Swedish scientists also conducted a study on the device based on which further advancements were made.

Meanwhile, the device has received approvals from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) and the European Union Conformite Europenne (CE). The makers who had been waiting for approvals are now working to make the device ready for mass production. Shycocan has been launched by Medwin Healthcare, which is the international humanitarian agreement holder to manufacture and market Shycocan for India as well as for the entire South Asia, and is priced at Rs 19,999 inclusive of 18 percent of GST
