Amit Shah: India’s Criminal System to Be Most Modern in the World in 5 Years

Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the significance of three new criminal laws during the 5th International and 44th All India Criminology Conference of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). He stated that India’s criminal justice system is entering a new era, with the scrapping of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and Evidence Law, and the introduction of new laws. Shah highlighted the compulsory inclusion of forensic science officers at crime scenes for cases with punishments of 7 years or more, aiming to modernize the entire process.

Shah expressed confidence that within 5 years, India’s criminal justice system will be the most modern in the world. He mentioned over 50 changes made in various fields within the past 10 years, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transformation and progress.

The Home Minister asserted that after 5 years, India will have more than 9,000 scientific officers and forensic science experts annually. He highlighted the importance of behavioral science in preventing crime and discussed technical solutions for police stations located in hilly areas. Shah underscored the need to integrate forensic science with the judicial process for effective outcomes.

Addressing challenges, Shah emphasized the importance of maintaining the principles of a basic police force while embracing technology for modernization. He called for vigilance against hybrid and multi-dimensional threats, advocating for a network to protect the system. Shah concluded by expressing confidence that India, guided by the vision of its citizens, will emerge as supreme in every sphere of life by August 15, 2047, marking 100 years of independence.
