Following a tragic explosion at Chamundi Explosives Pvt Ltd in Dhamna, Nagpur, six workers lost their lives, and three others were critically injured on Thursday. The factory’s director, Jay Khemka, and manager Sagar Deshmukh were subsequently arrested on Friday, as confirmed by Vinod Godbole, police inspector of Hingna police station.
Sanjay Tidke, the general manager of Chamundi Explosives, assured compensation for the families of the deceased workers, stating prompt relief efforts were initiated upon learning of the incident.
Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal indicated that the Nagpur blast was triggered by a fire in the firecracker storage unit adjacent to where workers were packing, prompting a detailed investigation by experts to determine the exact cause.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed sadness over the incident on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting efforts by the district administration and pledging financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Assistance Fund for the affected families.
Former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP-SCP leader Anil Deshmukh also visited the site to assess the situation and extend support.
