Before departing for Dhaka, senior Awami League leaders were pleased by a tweet from BJP President J P Nadda, acknowledging India’s role during Bangladesh’s liberation struggle. Nadda expressed hopes for a lasting relationship between the two nations. While the BJP’s foreign cell had originally invited the Awami League leaders for a “Know BJP” program, it became more about understanding the Awami League. The delegation, led by Awami League presidium member and Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak along with Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmood, conveyed to Indian leaders that an Awami League government is beneficial for India. They met External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jayshankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goel. However, only the Bangladesh mission issued a press release regarding the meeting, emphasizing India’s support for the Awami League.
