Newly released National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data highlights that Mumbai holds the fourth position among metros with the highest number of criminal cases involving juveniles, totaling 363 in 2022. The top three cities on this list are Delhi (2,336), Chennai (521), and Ahmedabad (433).
The NCRB’s ‘Crime in India 2022’ report, published on Monday, analyzed data from 19 metros with populations exceeding two million to determine the rankings. Across the country, a total of 30,555 cases were registered against juveniles in 2022.
Breaking down the statistics for Mumbai, the majority of crimes committed by juveniles were related to property offenses (120), followed by cases of causing hurt (88), theft (80), molestation and burglary (20 each), rape and robbery (16 each), kidnapping and abduction (10), and murder (nine).
Specifically focusing on POCSO-related crimes involving juveniles in metros, Delhi recorded the highest with 103 cases, followed by Mumbai (60), Ahmedabad (31), and Chennai (28).
