Trinamool Congress MP, Mahua Moitra, scrutinised the credibility of a controversial affidavit from businessman Darshan Hiranandani. She noted its absence of an official letterhead and lack of notarization. Moitra criticised the document, claiming it was thrust upon Hiranandani by the Prime Minister’s Office and then strategically leaked to the media.

The affidavit accuses Moitra of plotting to politically undermine Prime Minister Narendra Modi, using the Adani group for a smear campaign. Hiranandani alleges Moitra shared her parliament login credentials with him to draft questions about the Adani Group. He justified his involvement, citing potential backing from Opposition-ruled states. Moreover, Hiranandani claims Moitra received information from various sources, including journalists and former Adani Group employees. Sucheta Dalal, a named journalist, has refuted the claims.

BJP’s Nishikant Dubey has written to Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, accusing Moitra of various violations and requesting her immediate suspension. Dubey suggests Moitra’s questions in parliament were influenced by Hiranandani to favour his business over the Adani group. In response, Moitra refutes all allegations and expresses openness to any investigation.
