Police intensified investigations surrounding Congress MLA Maman Khan, a suspect in the Nuh violence case in Haryana. Following a two-day remand period that ended on Sunday, Khan was presented before duty magistrate CJM Joginder Singh amidst high security.
During the hearing, Khan faced charges in four distinct cases, three of which resulted in judicial custody orders under FIR numbers 149, 150, and 148. A separate charge, under FIR number 137, led to an additional two-day police remand for Khan.
The preceding remand involved rigorous questioning at multiple police stations including Nagina and Tawadu, with officials confiscating and scrutinising Khan’s mobile phone and laptop for forensic examination. Police suspect the deletion of pertinent data such as photos, videos, and chat logs and are working towards recovering the potentially deleted items. The ongoing investigation also explores Khan’s connections with others involved, seeking to curb the spread of violence further.
Authorities lifted the internet ban in Nuh while imposing Section 144, signifying a substantial police presence in court premises and critical checkpoints in the region. Insiders from Nuh police anticipate Khan’s entanglement in other cases, with potential inclusions in six cases overall, currently enveloping 42 accused individuals.
SIT officials pursued details of Khan’s whereabouts between July 28 and 31, especially probing his involvement and connections with those disseminating inflammatory content online. Despite Khan’s claims of being absent from the affected area during the events of July 31, evidence suggests potential falsehoods in his statement, hinting at his presence at Barkali Chowk before the outbreak of violence.
MLA Khan now finds himself amidst a whirlpool of accusations and evidentiary inquiries, with the road ahead appearing increasingly challenging as authorities tighten their investigative noose. Police emphasise their dedicated pursuit of justice, holding all involved accountable and bringing truth to light amidst the chaotic backdrop of the Nuh violence incident.
