Miranda House, IIM-A, AIIMS Delhi top NIRF rankings

IIT Madras retains first position in the overall as well as in engineering categories for the third consecutive year.

Students from Miranda House, Delhi, have much to cheer for as their college has got the first position in the “College category” in the sixth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Education Ministry, released by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday. Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi, and Loyola College, Chennai, are in the second and third spots. Colleges in Delhi dominate the ranking of colleges, with five colleges out of the first 10 colleges from Delhi.

In NIRF India 2021, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras retained first position in the Overall Category as well as in Engineering for the third consecutive year. Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, topped the University as well as Research Institution categories introduced for the first time in India Rankings 2021. In the Overall Category, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and IIT, Bombay, secured the second and third spots respectively. In the “Engineering Category”, IIT, Delhi, and IIT, Bombay, come in the second and third spots respectively.

In the “University Category”, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, secured the first three spots respectively.

In the “Medical Category”, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, was ranked at the top spot, followed by Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, and Christian Medical College, Vellore. For AIIMS, New Delhi, this is fourth consecutive year at the top slot in the Medical category. Fourth time in a row, PGIMER Chandigarh, sustained its second rank in NIRF.

In the “Management Category”, IIM, Ahmedabad, secured the first position, followed by IIM, Bangalore, and IIM, Calcutta. In the “Pharmacy Category”, Jamia Hamdard New Delhi, secured the first position, followed by Panjab University Chandigarh, and Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani. In the “Law Category”, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, was ranked at the top spot, followed by National Law University, New Delhi, and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said that a robust and a role model ranking framework will serve as India’s contribution to the global learning landscape, so, we must ensure that our ranking framework emerges as a benchmark not only in the country but also globally, especially for the developing economies. He also urged to development of regional ranking frameworks.
