A minor earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale struck Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, as confirmed by the National Centre of Seismology (NCS). The seismic event occurred at 11:33 am and was located at a depth of five kilometers beneath the surface, with coordinates of 32.76 degrees north and 74.57 degrees east.
The NCS swiftly posted details of the earthquake on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.9, Occurred on 02-01-2024, 11:33:32 IST, Lat: 32.76 and Long: 74.57, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Jammu and Kashmir.”
Despite the noticeable tremors, there have been no reports of damage from any part of the region. A police official confirmed that, as of now, there have been no indications of any adverse impact or harm resulting from the earthquake.
Residents across Jammu and Kashmir felt the tremors, prompting heightened awareness and concern, but the incident remains categorized as a minor seismic activity with no significant consequences reported.
