A minor earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale struck Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, as confirmed by the National Centre of Seismology (NCS). The seismic event occurred at 11:33 am and was located at a depth of five kilometers beneath the surface, with coordinates of 32.76 degrees north and 74.57 degrees east.
The NCS swiftly posted details of the earthquake on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.9, Occurred on 02-01-2024, 11:33:32 IST, Lat: 32.76 and Long: 74.57, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Jammu and Kashmir.”

Despite the noticeable tremors, there have been no reports of damage from any part of the region. A police official confirmed that, as of now, there have been no indications of any adverse impact or harm resulting from the earthquake.
