The second wave of the deadly Covid-19 infection in India with 3,23,144 people testing positive for the infection in a day, taking India’s total tally of cases to 1,76,36,307. A slight dip in daily cases was noted, when compared to the new infections reported over the past few days.

The death count increased to 1,97,894 with 2,771 new fatalities, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry data on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,45,56,209, as the case fatality rate further dropped to 1.12 percent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The number of active cases increased to 28,82,204, comprising 16.34 percent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate further dropped to 82.54 percent, the data stated.

Karnataka on Tuesday reported over 31,000 cases of Covid-19 and 180 deaths, while capital city Bengaluru logged its highest ever single-day spike in cases, with over 17,550 new infections, and 97 deaths. The state’s total active caseload has breached the 3 lakh-mark and Bengaluru alone accounts for over 2.06 lakh of the cases.

Jammu and Kashmir also recorded its biggest one-day tally, with 3,164 new infections. Srinagar alone registered 1,144 of the cases. The J&K administration has imposed prohibitory orders in Srinagar in wake of the spread of the virus.
