The team of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Panchkula arrested a mining king on charges of illegal mining. The arrested accused was identified as Gurpreet Singh Sabharwal, a resident of Panchkula and operator of M/s Tirupati Roadways, Rattewali, District Panchkula.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau produced the accused Gurpreet Singh Sabharwal in court and took him on police remand for 3 days. The accused is accused of causing a loss of crores of rupees of revenue to the government through illegal mining and mining beyond the limit. According to the government spokesperson, M/s Tirupati Roadways was given the contract for mining in Rattewali district, Panchkula.
But through illegal mining, GST and royalty were being stolen by extracting material/minerals in excess of the prescribed limit. The team of the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the above firm had conducted a surprise inspection at the mining site on May 11, 2022. During the surprise check, various incriminating documents were taken into possession by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Scrutiny of documents revealed that during the period from May 5, 2022, to May 11, 2022, a total of 1868 trucks/dumpers were found to have taken out the material, while only 518 trucks/dumpers were found to have issued bills mentioning GST, royalty, etc.
Further, the mineral site was inspected by officials/employees of Harsac, Gurugram, and the Mining Department, Panchkula, to determine the quantity of material/mineral extracted from the said site, and a report in this regard was obtained.
The report revealed that about 6 times more material/minerals were extracted from the site than the prescribed limit. After calculating the loss suffered by the government based on documents seized during the surprise inspection and the Harsec report, it was found that the government had incurred a loss of Rs 35 crore. A case was registered in this regard at Police Station Anti Corruption Bureau, Panchkula. Even after the surprise inspection conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, accused Gurpreet Singh continued to extract illegal mining material in excess of the limit. The Mining Department investigated and imposed a fine of Rs 134 crore on the said accused. Accused Gurpreet Singh Sabharwal, operator of M/s Tirupati Roadways, failed to obtain any relief/stay on his arrest from the High Court, Chandigarh.
Accused Gurpreet Singh Sabharwal, a resident of Panchkula and operator of M/s Tirupati Roadways, Rattewali, District Panchkula, were issued notices to join the investigation but were avoiding joining the investigation. The accused in the case was arrested from Dehradun. Accused Gurpreet Singh Sabharwal was produced in court and taken on police remand for 3 days.
