Bangladesh’s interim government has revoked all diplomatic passports issued to Members of Parliament (MPs) from the era of Sheikh Hasina, signalling a significant shift as the country grapples with the legal controversies surrounding the former Prime Minister. The decision follows mounting legal issues tied to Sheikh Hasina, particularly in connection with the recent anti-quota protests.

Diplomatic passports, recognizable by their red covers, are typically reserved for diplomats and high-ranking officials, granting them certain privileges such as visa-free travel to specific countries. These passports, which contain 28 pages, were previously issued to MPs during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, offering them various diplomatic benefits. The revocation marks a notable step by the interim government, reflecting the ongoing political and legal tensions in Bangladesh.
