Former England captain Michael Vaughan expressed his disappointment over Jack Leach’s omission from the Ashes series against Australia, saying that the “sport is cruel at times” and he not being in the squad is a big blow to England.
England spinner Jack Leach has been ruled out of the Men’s Ashes series after suffering from a low back stress fracture on Sunday, as announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board. Leach has become a “pivotal figure” under the leadership of skipper Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum.
“Gutted for Jack Leach… Sport is cruel at times. He has become a pivotal figure for England under Ben & Baz. This is a big blow to England’s chances as Jack has become very good at holding an end whilst the seamers rotate & getting key wickets! #Ashes,” tweeted Vaughan.
The 31-year-old Somerset slow-left-armer developed low back symptoms during England’s Test victory over Ireland on Saturday.
A stress fracture was discovered during a scan on Sunday in London, ruling him out of the upcoming Ashes Test series, which begins on Friday, June 16 at Edgbaston.
