Under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA), the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday designated the “Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction)” (MLJK-MA) as a “Unlawful Association.” According to Union Minister Amit Shah, the group’s members engage in secessionist and anti-national activities in Jammu and Kashmir. According to UAPA, the Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction)/MLJK-MA is deemed to be a “Unlawful Association.” Shah wrote on X, “This group and its members are instigating people to impose Islamic rule in Jammu and Kashmir, supporting terrorist activities, and engaging in anti-national and secessionist activities in J&K.” He went on to say that no one who violates India’s integrity, unity, or sovereignty will escape punishment.

“The PM @narendramodi government’s message is loud and clear that anyone acting against the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of our nation will not be spared and will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The organisation is led by Masarat Alam, interim chairman of the hardline faction of the All India Hurriyat Conference.
