MERCEDES STRENGTHENS ITS AMG PORTFOLIO IN INDIA WITH 2 NEW SEDANS

Company now offers 11 AMG products in India comprising the 35, 43, 53, 63 and GT series.

India’s largest luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has introduced two new performance sedans in the market. The AMG E 53 4MATIC+ and the AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ have helped the German car maker further strengthening its AMG portfolio in the country. The former is only the second ‘AMG 53 series’ product introduced in India, and the first ever in a sedan body shape. The more powerful AMG E 63 S 4M+ on the other hand reiterates Mercedes-AMG’s renewed focus on ‘One Man One Engine’ philosophy. The company now offers 11 AMG products in India comprising the 35, 43, 53, 63 and GT series. This also makes it the largest portfolio of performance cars offered in India by any luxury carmaker. While the E 53 is priced at Rs 1.02 crore, the E 63 S is priced at Rs 1.70 crore (ex-showroom).

DESIGN

Both these cars are based on the E-class sedan that was launched in India a few months back. They are supplemented by an extensive design update where the central cooling air inlet in the completely restyled front section is significantly larger than before and now bears the AMG-specific radiator grille with twelve vertical louvres and central star, which is also larger. Two new, flatter taillights with two sections immediately catch the eye on the tail end of the car. They now extend into the boot lid, where they are visually linked with a trim strip in high-gloss chrome on the top. The reshaped rear apron emphasises the broad effect on the car and also has a positive effect on aerodynamics.

As standard the E 63 S gets new 20-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, also aerodynamically optimised and with a wider aero rim edge, painted in a choice of matt black or high-gloss tantalum grey. The E 53 gets restyled 19-inch light-alloy wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design.

INTERIORS

The interiors are enhanced with the addition of a widescreen cockpit, an AMG performance steering wheel and the MBUX infotainment system with AMG-specific functions and displays, reiterating its membership of the AMG family. The cabin comes high-quality materials with the characteristic AMG performance. The AMG seats are upholstered in nappa leather and have an AMG-specific seat upholstery layout with an AMG badge in the front seat backrests. Individually adjustable ambient lighting also comes as standard. A further highlight is the MBUX infotainment system with a touchscreen and touchpad, the intelligent voice control plus AMG-specific displays and settings.

For the instrument cluster’s display, customers can switch between the three AMG display styles of Modern Classic, Sport and Supersport. The Supersport mode comes with a central, round rev counter and horizontal displays presented in perspective to the left and right of the rev counter and creating a spatial impression of depth. The new AMG steering wheel is light and comes with a twin-spoke design and integrated buttons. In the steering wheel rim, there is also a sensor mat to detect “hands-on”. If the driver does not have their hands on the steering wheel for a certain time, a warning cascade is started, which finally activates emergency brake assist if the driver continues to be inactive.

ENGINE

The AMG E 53 4M+ comes with a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder in-line engine which offers a peak output of 435 hp and peak torque of 520 Nm at 1800 – 5800 rpm. The car does 0-100 km/h in 4.5 secs and its top speed is 250 km/h. On the other hand, the more powerful E 63 S runs on a 4.0-litre V8 that churns out 612 hp and 850 Nm at 2500-4500 rpm. This one accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 secs and its top speed is an even faster 300 km/h. The EQ Boost also offers additional power and torque on both the cars.

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT 9G transmission can also be operated by using paddle shifts. For even more precise shift commands the paddles are now slightly bigger and positioned further down. The centre console includes an AMG-specific control unit with additional switches that are used to regulate the drive programs, the media volume, the 3-stage ESP, the manual transmission mode, the adaptive damping system, the optional AMG performance exhaust system, the ECO start/stop function and the reversing camera.

There are up to six drive programs of slippery, comfort, sport, sport+, individual and “RACE” available on the E 63. As expected, the available range extends from efficient and comfortable to very sporty. The modes modify key parameters, such as the response of the engine, transmission, suspension, and steering. The E 53 on the other hand offers five drive modes called slippery, comfort, sport, sport+ and individual.

Maruti lines up the Grand Vitara SUV for this festive season

Maruti Suzuki has been in the thick of action in 2022 when it comes to launching new cars into the market. The Indo-Japanese brand has launched many new offerings across all segments, including cars like the Alto, Baleno, Brezza, and XL6. The company has now reintroduced the Grand Vitara name to the market with a new compact SUV, one that comes with many engine and gearbox options. It is also the first car from the brand to get a strong hybrid model and the first in a long time to get an all-wheel drive option.

Design
The new Grand Vitara is built on the company’s new crafted futuristic design language and gets many premium as well as SUV design cues. This includes elements such as body cladding, roof rails, as well as skid plates. The highlight of the face is the triple LED headlamps, which certainly add to the appeal. The Strong Hybrid or the Intelligent Electric Hybrid gets a more premium, rich chrome finish on the grille and a glossy black finish on the cladding. Overall, the car looks quite big and commands a solid presence on the road, something that will work well for the buyer both in the urban as well as rural markets. The SUV gets 3 dual-tone and 6 monotone colour options, including the very popular Nexa Blue.

Interiors
The Grand Vitara is loaded with features, something that cannot be said about every car from Maruti Suzuki. Once again, it is the strong hybrid model that gets an enhanced appeal with exclusive features like wireless charging, head-up-display, and ventilated front seats. The SUV also gets features like a panoramic sunroof with dual sliding panes, a 360-degree parking camera, a Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system, and in-built Suzuki Connect technology, which comes with more than 40 connectivity features. The 2nd row is good on space, and 3 passengers can sit here in relative comfort. The good thing is that all three get adjustable headrests and, more importantly, 3-point seat belts. Talking about boot space, the smart hybrid model gets more volume as batteries eat up some of the space in the strong hybrid version of the car.

Engine
Both the smart hybrid and intelligent hybrid models of the Grand Vitara come with 1.5-litre petrol engines. The former runs on the familiar new-Gen K-series 1.5-litre, Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine that does duty on many cars from Maruti Suzuki. It comes with a choice of 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options, and here the brand is claiming a fuel efficiency of up to 21.11kmpl depending on the variant you choose to buy. This Smart Hybrid comes with a dual battery setup and offers brake energy regeneration, torque assist, and idle stop-start function.
The Intelligent Electric Hybrid gets a dual powertrain system, which includes an electric motor and a 1.5-litre engine. The self-charging SUV gets multiple drive modes (EV, Eco, Power, and Normal). This allows it to switch between the engine and electric drive modes. The setup also harnesses the power of both powertrains, depending on the driving situation. The SUV can also run as a pure EV, resulting in zero emissions. The model is available with an e-CVT transmission and delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.97 kmpl. It comes with a standard warranty of 8 years/160,000 km on the Li-ion battery pack.
The SUV also gets Suzuki’s All Grip Select technology, albeit only with the smart hybrid model and only with a manual gearbox. The electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive system comes with four selectable driving modes—Auto, Sport, Snow, and Lock. This enables the SUV to take the road less travelled and tide over challenging conditions.
Talking about safety, the car gets six airbags, which include front, side, and curtain airbags. It also gets an electronic stability program with hill hold assist and front and rear disc brakes across all variants. You also get safety features like hill descent control and a tyre pressure monitoring system on the SUV.

Prices
The smart or mild hybrid model of the Grand Vitara is priced between Rs. 10.45 lakh and 17.05 lakh, while the price of the intelligent electric hybrid ranges from Rs. 17.99 lakh to Rs. 19.65 lakh. The only All-wheel drive variant is priced at Rs. 16.89 lakh, all prices ex-showroom. Maruti says to encourage faster adoption of cleaner, greener hybrid electric vehicles in the country, the Grand Vitara strong hybrid gets a special introductory package consisting of an extended warranty till 5 years/1 lakh kms and a ‘Pristine’ accessory pack which is worth over Rs. 67,000. The SUV can also be owned through Maruti Suzuki Subscribe at an all-inclusive monthly subscription fee starting from Rs. 27,000. This fee covers the cost of complete registration, service and maintenance, insurance, and roadside assistance.

Instagram to develop safety tool to protect users from filthy DMs

Published

Instagram is developing a new security feature that will shield users against sexually inappropriate photographs in their inboxes. According to The Verge, the “Nudity Protection” tool will work to weed out instances of online harassment known as “cyberflashing.”

Recent days have seen a significant rise in cyber-flashing incidents, which entail sending unwanted sexual messages to strangers, frequently women. By empowering users to automatically reject direct message requests containing objectionable content, this new functionality aims to combat this threat.

The report says Meta is going to use machine learning to support people to shield themselves from nude photos and other undesirable messages.

Alessandro Pauzzi, a Meta developer, also shared a sneak peek of the new feature on Twitter.

In a tweet, he shared the screenshot of the possible feature and wrote, “Instagram is working on nudity protection for chats. This technology covers photos that may contain nudity in chats. Instagram CAN’T access photos.”

Confirming this, a Meta spokesperson told The Verge they are working closely with experts to assure these new features maintain people’s privacy while also providing them to control over the communication they receive. The technology won’t let Meta view the actual messages or share them with third parties, the spokesperson mentioned.

When the feature is released, Meta said, users will have the option to enable or disable it at their choice. The feature is currently in the development phase.

A control system for parents of minors using the social networking site owned by Meta in India was recently developed. This function is now considered to be the next development in ensuring users’ privacy and security.

In addition to the current Hidden Words function, which was first launched in 2021, this feature will be available. Users can automatically filter problematic words, phrases, and emoticons into a protected folder using the Hidden Words function. Even DM inquiries that are presumably spammed are filtered out by this tool.
