American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor is not holding back when it comes to her aspirations for a role on American Idol. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Trainor candidly revealed that being a judge on the iconic singing reality show is her “dream job.”
“I’ve done every interview in the world and said that that is my dream job,” Trainor exclaimed enthusiastically. She even took matters into her own hands by reaching out to key figures in the show’s production. “I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world,” she disclosed, though she acknowledged they “don’t really have the full say but I begged.”
Trainor’s passion for the role is palpable. “I have begged for this job,” she admitted with a mix of determination and humor. “I want to drive to work at American Idol and then drive home,” she added, painting a vivid picture of her eagerness to join the esteemed judging panel.

She served as a judge on The Four: Battle for Stardom in 2018, The Voice UK in 2020, and Australian Idol in 2023. “I love being a part of that process,” Trainor shared, reflecting on her enjoyment of witnessing contestants’ journeys from auditions to global stardom. “I just get way too attached,” she confessed, revealing her emotional investment in the contestants’ successes.
Country music star Luke Bryan also endorsed Trainor’s potential as a judge. “I think Meghan’s always been real fun,” Bryan commented. “You know, that’s kinda been her brand, to have fun. She’s real witty, so certainly.”
