HC PULLS UP NMC, CENTRE FOR ASKING MCI EMPLOYEES TO VACATE BUILDING

The Delhi High Court issued a contempt notice to the Union Health Ministry and National Medical Commission (NMC), expressing anguish for their disregard of its orders and asking employees of the erstwhile Medical Council of India (MCI) to vacate the council building.

A bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Subramaniam Prasad was displeased with the Union Health Ministry and NMC’s decision of asking 92 employees to vacate the premises of the council’s building with immediate effect on 5 October. The court has given directions to the NMC for making the computers in the building functional and bringing back the biometric system for attendance. The direction came on the basis of a plea moved by 94 MCI employees and officials.

The NMC replaced the MCI in September this year, as the regulator of medical education and doctors in the country.
