The medical team departed from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Delhi on Saturday morning. Late on Friday, the medical team had arrived at the ED’s office to conduct a medical examination of the Delhi Chief Minister.
Earlier, Atishi, a minister from the Aam Aadmi Party, expressed concerns about the safety and security of the Delhi Chief Minister on Friday.
“For the first time in the country, a sitting Chief Minister has been arrested. Arvind Kejriwal has Z+ security cover. Now he is in the custody of the ED of the Central Government. We are concerned about his safety and security,” Atishi posted on X on Friday.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court granted CM Kejriwal seven days of ED custody in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam, extending till March 28.
A team from the Enforcement Directorate had visited Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday to question him regarding the liquor policy case. Kejriwal was arrested during a search operation at his residence amidst dramatic circumstances, as the AAP convener failed to secure interim protection from arrest in the liquor policy case from the Delhi High Court. Subsequently, the Enforcement Directorate took him to the agency’s headquarters.
Following his arrest, AAP workers and leaders rallied behind Kejriwal, while leaders of the INDIA bloc also showed their support for the AAP leader. BJP leaders expressed their support for the ED’s actions against the Delhi Chief Minister, emphasizing the importance of “truth prevailing.”
The case revolves around alleged irregularities and money laundering in the framing and implementation of the Delhi excise policy in 2022, which was later scrapped.
“ED was seeking a 10-day remand. They argued that a custodial investigation was necessary to trace the money trail. Considering all factors, the judge granted a 6-day custodial remand. He will appear in court again on March 28. ED claimed that the funds used for the Goa elections were illicitly acquired. They cited statements from some witnesses to support this assertion,” said Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer, Madan Lal, to reporters.
