To strengthen waste management among street vendors, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh provided twin litter bins to its registered Street Food Vendors during the Swacchhta Pakhwada 2023 – Swachhata hi Seva campaign. Aimed to raise awareness and sensitize vendors about waste segregation at their vending sites, the City Mayor Anup Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra, IAS, distributed twin litter bins to its registered vendors at MCC office premises, Sector 17, here today.
While sharing about this initiative, the Mayor said that to support the vendors in their waste management efforts, MCC has procured an impressive 2500 pairs of twin bins in blue and green variants. These bins will ensure that approximately 2500 registered street vendors of Sector-15 have the necessary tools to actively segregate their food waste.
He said that every citizen has a role to play in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of the city. By empowering street vendors with twin litter bins, the MCC encouraging them to actively contribute to waste segregation efforts, setting a positive example for the entire community, said the Mayor.
Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra, IAS, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the significance of the initiative, Waste segregation is a crucial step towards building a sustainable future for Chandigarh. Through this distribution of twin litter bins, we aim to create awareness and encourage street food vendors to become catalysts for change in waste management practices, she added.
She said that this distribution of twin litter bins aligns with MC Chandigarh’s commitment to the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR), contributing to the overall sustainability of the city. MC Chandigarh’s dedication to adopting a sustainable urban agenda serves as an inspiring example for other cities striving to create a greener future.
She further said that MCC remains steadfast in its commitment to the development and betterment of the city. With a focus on sustainable practices and citizen engagement, the Municipal Corporation continues to work tirelessly to ensure a clean, green, and livable city for all its residents.
