In Amritsar, a large number of devotees have flocked to the Golden Temple in Amritsar to mark the Gurpurb of Guru Ram Das Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru and the city’s founder. The revered gurdwara has been adorned with an exquisite floral display, enhancing its sacred ambiance as worshippers from around the world come together to celebrate the Guru’s legacy.
Guru Ram Das Ji, who laid the foundation of Amritsar, then called ‘Guru Ka Chak,’ envisioned the construction of the holy Amrit Sarovar, around which the Golden Temple was later built by his successor, Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The temple’s elaborate floral arrangements, particularly around the inner sanctum and parikarma, created a visually stunning atmosphere that beautifully complements the temple’s golden exterior.
The SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) ensured that the decorations embodied the devotion and reverence for Guru Ram Das Ji. To amplify the celebrations, a captivating laser show took place last night, with lights reflecting off the holy sarovar and illuminating the gurdwara’s gold-covered walls. The night sky was further illuminated by a grand fireworks display that mesmerized the crowd.
The evening before the Gurpurb, a grand Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) was held by the SGPC, led by the Panj Pyare (five beloved ones) carrying the Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag). Devotees lined the streets, chanting hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Gatka groups displayed their martial arts skills, adding excitement to the event.
To accommodate the influx of devotees, the SGPC implemented robust arrangements for crowd control, cleanliness, and security.

Born in Lahore in 1534, Guru Ram Das Ji is remembered for his deep humility, unwavering devotion, and dedication to serving others. He became the fourth Sikh Guru in 1574, following Guru Amar Das Ji.
