India’s shooting sensation Manu Bhaker is still an inspiration for the youth of the country. Recently, she posted a picture with local street vendors selling diyas and Diwali decorations. This festival season, Manu had decided to buy locally crafted ‘mitti’ diyas instead of the costlier ones, promoting the ‘vocal for local’ initiative and urging her followers to do the same and encourage local artisans. She captioned her post as: “Shubh Deepawali. Vocal for local. Let’s celebrate Diwali with our parivar.”

Manu was quite easily the brightest spot in the whole Indian performance in Paris, returning with two bronze medals to seal her name. She first bagged the bronze in Women’s 10m Air Pistol and thus became India’s first medal in the Games. She then added a third bronze by combining with Sarabjot Singh in Mixed Team 10m Air Pistol. This made her the first Indian to have two medals in an edition of the Olympics.
Besides these sporting gains, Manu recently had a spectacular turn as a showstopper for Marks & Spencer at Lakme Fashion Week in Delhi. Her increasing fame since Olympics has made her a sports icon for the country and a trendsetter for young minds. Manu also confirmed her college plans by uploading a click of herself sitting in an examination hall with her paper board and examination material.
Through social media, she expressed her intention to pursue further studies while balancing sports. She wrote, “Life is an education. I chose to pursue higher education as well. Finding right balance between sports and academics is very much possible.”
