Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann faces sharp criticism from BJP spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill for attending a political convention in Chhattisgarh while Punjab is grappling with flood woes.
Mann, alongside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, addressed an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convention in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on Saturday. Here, Kejriwal unveiled a ten-point “guarantee” for the upcoming elections in the state, including pledges such as free electricity and allowances for the unemployed.
Shergill slammed Mann on Sunday, remarking that Punjab requires a “Chief Minister, not a Campaign Minister.” He claimed that Mann’s political engagements overshadow the needs of Punjab, hinting at Mann being Kejriwal’s puppet to promote the so-called ‘Punjab model’ in poll campaigns.
Accusations also flew regarding the misuse of Punjab’s treasury funds for political endeavours. Shergill highlighted the ongoing protests by government employees over unpaid dues, contrasting it with alleged state-sponsored political trips by Mann.
Shergill also raised concerns over reports of Mann and Kejriwal leading campaigns in other election-focused states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, parts of Punjab, including Ferozepur and Gurdaspur, are submerged due to excess water release from regional dams.
