The The home of a lawyerrepresenting Kuki Professor Kham Khan Suan Hausing before the Manipur High Court was being vandalised by a mob. Therefore, the home of the Advocate SoiraishamChitaranjan was attacked by Mob.
Following the same, the Chitarajan and three other lawyers – Victor Chongtham, Th. Zingo, and A Priyokumar Sharma – had to decide to not appear for Professor Huasing in the Manipur High Court. Thus, a memo has been filed by them in the High Court wherein the court informed them about their withdrawal from the case on August 31, 2023.
Therefore, Huasing, a professor of Political Science at the University of Hyderabad, is facing the criminal case wherein alleging for making remarks against Meitei community in an interview.
The Supreme Court in the case observed and has granted him protection from coercive action for the period of two weeks and asked him to approach the Manipur High Court for the said reliefs.
The counsel Senior Advocate Anand Grover, who represented the Professor before the Supreme Court and the High Court, informed the Hindu that his instructing lawyers in Imphal had to withdraw from the case after they received threats.
It has been stated by the Grover that they were facing threats and vandalism and so the lawyers assisting decided to withdraw.
The Hindu was informed by the Hausing that they threatened the lawyers on Thursday and then the office of one of the lawyers was vandalised on Friday and so they withdrew. Thus, this is most unfortunate and goes against the principle of natural justice and it does not bode well for law and justice in the State.
