In the wake of renewed violence in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday provided an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed. The announcement came after fresh incidents of violence, including the brutal killing of Ngangbam (O) Surbala Devi by Kuki militants.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Biren Singh stated, “Representatives of the JAC against the brutal killing of (L) Ngangbam (O) Surbala Devi by Kuki militants at Koutruk called on me at my Secretariat. An ex gratia amount of Rs 10 lakhs has been handed over to the bereaved family as a small gesture from the government, recognizing the deep loss they have endured. While no financial assistance can truly compensate for the life lost, it is our responsibility to stand by the affected families and offer them support in these difficult times.”

The Chief Minister also expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Surbala Devi, acknowledging the emotional toll of the tragedy.

Meeting with the Governor Amid Fresh Violence

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Biren Singh, accompanied by 18 MLAs, met with Governor L Acharya at Raj Bhavan to discuss the recent violence in the state. The meeting included key ministers such as Basanta, Ranjan, Susindro, and Govindas, as well as MLAs Loken, Kongkhan Robindro, and Nalini.

The meeting followed an incident in which Kuki militants reportedly used long-range rockets in two civilian areas, killing a 78-year-old man, RK Rabei, and injuring six others in Bishnupur, according to Manipur Police.

Security Measures Enhanced in Manipur

In response to escalating tensions, Assam Rifles (AR) has deployed anti-drone systems in Manipur to counter potential threats from rogue drones. Additional anti-drone guns are also being brought into the state by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to bolster security.

Manipur Police confirmed the deployment in a post on X, stating, “AR has deployed a few anti-drone systems in the state at fringe areas to repel any rogue drones. CRPF has also tested one anti-drone system and given it to the force deployed in the state. Some more anti-drone guns are being brought to the state by CRPF shortly.”

Three Miscreants Found Dead After Fire Exchange

Manipur Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) K Kabib reported on Saturday that three bodies of miscreants were found after a heavy exchange of fire in Nungchappi village, Jiribam district. Additionally, a 63-year-old civilian was killed in an attack by suspected Kuki militants in Jiribam. The three bodies of the miscreants were recovered after the clash.
