Manipur: Blasts In Kangpokpi before Lok Sabha Phase 2 Election

In the state of Manipur at Kangpoki district, three blasts of medium intensity spanning Tuesday-Wednesday has taken place. Reportedly damaging a bridge barely 2 days before the 2nd phase of the Lok Sabha Election.

These blasts happened near Saparmeina along the National Highway-2 at 1:15 am approximately. This highway connects the state’s capital Imphal and Nagaland’s Dimapur.

So far, no casualty has been reported from the site. But the traffic flow had been disrupted. As for the preventive measure, the highway has been blocked by the security forces.

Currently, an investigation is underway as no group has taken the responsibility for the attack yet. As a result, the security forces have initiated the searches of nearby area & bridges to ensure the safety of public.

This is the second disruption during the election that has occurred in the state. Earlier, incidents of violence were reported from the northeastern states during the first phase of the election. At some places, EVM machines were damaged, and the allegations of intimidation too was reported. Thus, resulting in re-election at 11 stations on 22nd April 2024.
