According to officials, a man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly strangling his wife to death. Asmat Ali (28) was apprehended in Sector 58’s Ghata village, where he lived with his deceased wife Sunifa (27).

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday night. After the incident, Ali called Sunita’s family members and informed them that she had committed suicide. When the family arrived at the house, they discovered her body on the floor. Investigators learned that Ali claimed he laid her down in an attempt to resuscitate her. Sunita’s family members noticed a ligature mark on her neck but had no idea she had been murdered.

An investigation was launched under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), with the suspicion that the death was the result of suicide. On Saturday, an autopsy was performed, and the report received on Sunday revealed that she was strangled to death. On Sunday evening, police filed an FIR against Ali at Sector 65 police station under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Ali married Sunita in 2013 after she divorced her previous husband. Sunita’s previous marriage’s eight-year-old daughter and their three-year-old daughter shared their home. Sunita’s father, Astab Sheikh, claimed Ali suspected her of reconnecting with her ex-husband. Because of his suspicion, the suspect allegedly assaulted Sunifa several times over the last week. Astab also stated that Ali was asked to meet with the entire family to clear his doubts.

According to Subhash Boken, public relations officer for Gurugram police, the suspect was placed on one-day police remand for questioning.
