Congress MLA Maman Khan, who has been implicated in inciting violence in Nuh, Haryana, is set to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court to seek a stay on his arrest. This announcement was made by fellow Congress MLA Mohammad Ilyas.
Maman Khan has once again failed to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Nuh violence, and he has not provided any response to Haryana Police regarding his absence.
He had been summoned by Haryana Police to appear before the SIT at Nagina police station on August 31, but he cited illness as the reason for his non-appearance. Subsequently, the SIT issued another notice for him to appear on September 10, but once again, he neither attended nor responded to the police
Maman Khan had previously raised concerns about Gurugram’s cow protector Monu Manesar during a legislative session, accusing Monu of engaging in hooliganism and presenting videos of him with weapons alongside BJP leaders. During this confrontation, Maman Khan had a heated argument with BJP’s Pataudi MLA Satyaprakash Jaravata. Following this, Maman Khan challenged MLA Jaravata and Monu Manesar to visit Mewat and made certain objectionable remarks. This incident was widely circulated after the Nuh violence.
In the Nuh violence case that occurred on July 31, the police have thus far arrested 316 individuals. A total of 60 FIRs have been filed, with 49 cases related to incitement of violence and 11 related to the spread of rumors on social media. Among those arrested, 314 individuals face charges of involvement in violence, while 2 are accused of spreading false information on social media. Maman Khan’s decision to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court reflects the ongoing legal battle surrounding his alleged involvement in the Nuh violence, which remains a contentious issue in the region.
