"Main Resign Nahi Karungi...": Swati Maliwal Refuses to Give Up Rajya Sabha Seat

Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Swati Maliwal, stated in an interview with ANI that she would not resign from her Rajya Sabha seat despite any pressure to do so. She emphasized her dedication to her position and her lack of desire for power. Maliwal highlighted her long-standing commitment to public service since 2006, even amidst adversity. Despite facing challenges and character attacks, she affirmed her resolve to continue serving.

Responding to questions about power dynamics within the party, Maliwal remarked on the rise of egos over the years. She reminisced about the earlier days of unity and enthusiasm among members, contrasting it with the current environment marked by ego clashes. Maliwal expressed disappointment over the treatment she received, including physical assault and character assassination, indicating a deterioration in values within the party.

In January of the same year, Maliwal, representing the Aam Aadmi Party, was elected to the Rajya Sabha unopposed. Regarding allegations of assault against a former aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Maliwal’s complaint led to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the arrest of the accused. Despite the gravity of the situation, Maliwal criticized the silence of AAP’s leadership, particularly Chief Minister Kejriwal, on matters concerning women’s safety, implying a lack of prioritization of such issues within the party.
