With 20,903 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total tally of coronavirus cases reached 6,25,544 cases on Friday. Also, the death toll in the country rose to 18,213. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka are the 10 states which contain 90% of the total viral infection.
Maharashtra remains the country’s worst-affected state as it recorded its highest single-day spike of 6,364 new cases and 198 deaths, taking the total count to 1,91,945 cases so far. The state has recorded 8,375 deaths during the pandemic. Meanwhile in Delhi, testing of 24,165 citizens was done in the last 24 hours and till date, 5,96,695 tests have been conducted. The recovery rate in the national capital stands at 69.3% at present which is the highest till now.
In the last 24 hours, 1,375 new cases emerged in Mumbai and 73 deaths were reported. The tally touched 82,074 active cases and 4,762 deaths in the metropolitan city. Meanwhile, 3,515 patients have recovered here and went back home. A total of 1,04,687 cases recovered in Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu reported 4,329 fresh coronavirus cases and its tally rose to 1,02,721. In the past 24 hours, 64 Covid-19 patients died here, taking the death toll to 1,385.
Delhi remained at the third spot in the list of worst-affected states in the country with 2,520 fresh Covid-19 cases, 2,617 discharged patients and 61 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in the national capital is now at 94,695 including 65,624 recovered/discharged/migrated patients, 26,148 active cases and 2,923 deaths have been reported so far and the total number of containment zones stand at 445.
Meanwhile, Gujarat too recorded its highest one-day increase of 687 new coronavirus cases, taking the case count across the 34,000- mark. This is for the seventh day when more than 600 new coronavirus patients have come to light in the state. While in Uttar Pradesh, a total of 982 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases to 7,451 and total number of cases to 24,825 in the state. While 17,557 patients have been cured and sent back home, the death toll has risen to 749 in the state.
In West Bengal, the highest single-day spike of 669 cases was reported in the last 24 hours and the highest single-day death rate of 18 was also reported. Total number of cases in the state is now at 20,488 and total deaths that took place are 717.
