Authorities have decided to use DNA tests to identify the victims of the fatal bus accident that happened in Buldhana district of Maharashtra early on Saturday.
Around 01.30 in the morning, the bus they were riding in flipped and caught fire on the Samruddhi-Mahamarg motorway in Buldhana district, leaving at least 25 people dead and 8 more injured.
Authorities turned to DNA testing since it appeared to be challenging for the police to identify the victims of the Buldhana bus disaster because the bodies were burned beyond recognition.
“25 people have lost their lives in the accident. Identification of the bodies is being done. We will hand over the bodies to the relatives after the DNA identification,” Buldhana District Collector Dr HP Tummod told the reporters.
According to officials, a collision occurred at Buldhana on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Motorway involving a bus travelling from Yavatmal, Maharashtra, to Pune.
25 people were killed and 8 were injured when a bus travelling from Yavatmal, Maharashtra, to Pune caught fire. The deceased included three children, while the survivors were all adults. The actual reason of the accident has not yet been identified, according to officials.
