According to officials, a portion of a two-story building that was about 45 years old collapsed on Saturday night in the Gauripada neighborhood of Bhiwandi city, killing two people. Additionally, according to officials, the Bhiwandi Fire Brigade and other rescue teams worked together to free up to six civilians who lived in the building and were buried under the rubble of the collapsed portion.
Four of the six people who were saved were taken to a hospital, while the other two—Uzma, 40, and a baby girl who was 8 months old—were pronounced dead there, according to officials. The officials added that the building, which had been standing for more than 40 years, was in a dilapidated state and that the local municipal corporation had even sent a notice to the residents asking them to leave the building. The notice, though, was ignored.
