Madras High Court in the case observed and has temporarily restrained the by Novi Digital Entertainment, a subsidiary of Star India Private Limited which owns the online video streaming platform- Hot star.
The court also observed and has directed the Google for deducting only a 4% fee for in-app purchases made on the app.
The bench headed by Justice PT Asha observed and has passed the direction wherein an application is moved mobile applications of Disney+ Hot star from its Play Store.
In the present case, the Hot star’s application being the latest addition to a series of challenges made against the new billing policy of Google. Thus, based on the said policy, the Google had fixed service fee at the rate of 11% and 26% in respect of payments made through the Alternate Billing System.
It has also been alleged by the companies that the Google was threatening to remove the company’s apps from the play store, if they did not comply with the new billing policy.
The High Court in the case observed and has granted temporary relief to Bharat Matrimony app by restraining Google from delisting it.
It has also been found by the said court a balance of convenience in favour of Matrimony.com, the parent company of Bharath Matrimony.
