The Madras Bar Association has passed the resolution while raising objection against the renaming of Indian Penal Code, 1860, the Indian Evidence Act and Code of Criminal Procedure in Hindi. The Madras Bar Association has taken the objective objection to the names ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill’, ‘Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill’, ‘Bharatiya Sakshya Bill’ for the bills wherein seeking to replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act respectively. The Madras Bar Association stated that the names of the bills in Hindi is ‘against the provisions of the Constitution’ and raised a petition that the English names be retained. The Madras Bar Association introduced by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on August 11, 2023, which being on the last day of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session. The bills passed have been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
